Rhino-Voice of Wonder

The reason why the sound of my guinea pig (Rhino) is so inspiring for me is because he is my form of innocence. To many adults their children and their voice is what is very uplifting to them and gives them strength, and well that's what Rhino does for me. I guess you can say he's the voice of my child. I love his little squeak because it is one loud one and it is astonishing to me on how powerful it is for such a small creature. Anyone who knows me can let you know that I adore my pet so much and to me he is more than just this little misunderstood creature. The sounds he makes when he's hungry are a sound very much different from his purring (and yes i used purring) of joy and his cries for attention. Rhino is a creature of many sounds and the volumes he has are at many different ranges. My little man is one of a kind.

Bear the Puppy

I am an animal lover. I have three dogs and we treat them like people in my house. They are truly a part of my family. The smallest and newest member to the family is Bear. He is a toy Yorkshire Terrier, weighs 3.1 lbs. and knows how cute he is. With my crazy work and school schedule I don't really get to be home with my dogs too often. It was my day off so it was nice to be home doing nothing. I let Bear run around. He loved it because the house is so big compared to him. He had plenty of room to explore. This is one of his favorite toys, it squeaks when he bites down in the middle. When we first got him it would scare him but now he knows exactly where to bite down to make the noise. As an animal he acts on impulse and loves unconditionally. I think that inspires me because humans we hold back from allowing ourselves to be vulnerable in that way. Granted, we have more of a knowledge capacity so there is logical reasoning in our decision making, but what would happen if you didn't hold back? I ask myself that often.

Alexia Baca Sound Blog

Like many people, I love the sound of rain. I love the sound of rain so much that sometimes I even play "Rainy Mood," which is a website, or an app, that allows you to listen to rain- even when it is not raining! I just can't get enough of it! And because today it was raining, I thought, How appropiate would this be for my sound blog, which I forgot to do? Better late than never though, right? Anyways, I thought this was the perfect sound to post for the sound blog because who doesn't like the sound of rain? It's so soothing and relaxing, but it's a shame it almost never rains in L.A. That's probably why I appreciate it more than others,  especially since I am living in a drought. When it's raining, all I want to do is curl up in my bed, with my dog at my feet, and watch a movie, which I don't get to do often these days. It reminds me of one of the best feelings in the world. I could listen to the rain forever and ever...

Ingrid Weeks- Dog Answering the Door

I have a dog named Abra. She is a very energetic little dog and very protective. Whenever my family has someone over, she is the one who decides whether or not the company is allowed inside. She has to bark at them while they're walking up to the door, after they knock, and when they come inside, she has to jump on them and sniff them to see if they are worthy of our presence.
Of course, she does have her favorites, besides us, and more specifically, besides ME. *mischievous grin* People who come over often such as our grandparents, my boyfriend and all of our friends. Here is a video of her typical reaction to guests knocking.

I chose this sound to present because I noticed that it has only become very common since we got her. We have had dogs before but quite a while ago. I finally convinced my parents to get her and we've had her since June 2015. She has grown to love us and because of this, feels that it is her duty to protect us from strangers.
Another reason this sound is significant is, because she has great hearing and hears people walking up the driveway and the steps to the front door, which alerts us that there is someone coming and that we'll have to answer the door.

sound blog white noise Nina walker

I took this sound clip on a quiet Sunday afternoon, my roommates had guest over all weekend so this was the first bit of quiet I had that weekend. What you can hear the most is our air conditioner, something I usually don't notice but seems really loud in this video. I like that there are a few sounds going on in this video, there's the air conditioner, my roommate typing  and you can even here people talking outside our open window. They mix together to make a very comfortable casual sound.(Clip found on Dropbox)

Choreography.

I have never been a dancer, but I find myself in a dance class this quarter. It was a class that I would never find myself in, but the more I am in it, the more and more I am enjoying it. It's hard work but I think that is what has been pushing me through the class. The teacher is a professional dancer, so she makes us work really hard so hard that I am sweating bullets.  She lets us know that if we don't work hard, we'll never make ourselves better. Even though I want to quit during our choreography, i try my best to keep going even though I feel like a fish out of water.
During this sound clip, I took a step back to try to learn new choreography our teacher added. I got to sit back and hear the way she talked about dance, and how passionate she was about teaching us. It made me realize that the more passionate someone is about what they are teaching, the more you are able to learn from them and the easier. There have only been a couple of teachers that I've had that have had that passion, so it's always difficult to learn from them. I hope that in the future I get more teachers like her. You're one of them Karyn!

Green Room Shenanigans

Alright, this is my sound blog thing.  So there isn't a day where I'm not in the greenroom.  This is what I hear most days.  Just TinTin talking all the gosh dang time.  He's a great guy don't get me wrong, but he sure likes talking.  I chose to record the greenroom because the atmosphere of the youth's voices that are determined to make it.  I'm gonna be honest Karen I'm not quite sure what more you want me to say so I'll ramble on a bit more.  The sounds of everyone socializing is pretty neat.  I'm a guy that likes socializing so I like this sound.  I tried not to talk in it, as I was trying to make it seem as I wasn't there. Umm, I guess it could be applied to like a scene where there's supposed to be a bigger ruckus than what's available of the cast.  Okay, bye.

Love circles to heaven

My sound for stagecraft132....( you can find the soundclip on dropbox. Had a difficult time posting it here sorry for the inconvenience.)

This is the moment that means so much in my heart because my uncle is the first to leave to heaven in my family.... To see my father cry for the first time in my life like a child was the hardest thing to  observe.... My uncles viewing was yesterday Friday at 4-8 and his burial today 8-12. The sound of prayer is the most healing and intense sound in the world in my heart which  tells me so. The strength it pulls to give love and relieve pain is out of this world to me. And theses prayer as every one prays is in the language I learned first, aside english and its "home" in my heart. There is something powerful in the words spoken of the lord and in handing my uncle over to him through these words... Forever will he be remembered but I rejoice as he is partying in heaven as we live in theses wretched temporary body's on earth.

Under the Freeway Bridge

This sound is of passing cars under the freeway bridge. I could hear the cars driving fast above me and besides me. It makes me think how everyone is always in a rush to get everywhere. By everyone I also mean myself. I never seem to stop and actually see and hear what is around me. I always walk under this freeway bridge but I have never paid much attention to the sound. After hearing the sound clip again I realized it sounded like the sound was something from underwater. It was interesting to me because it made me think of how the sounds of the cars zooming under the bridge and above, plus the wind can make a whole different sound.

Belmontes-Telephone

In a society that is centered around our phones and the advancement of technology, most homes no longer have any landlines. For my play writing class my script ended with the sound of a telephone ringing. The story is about three different generations trying to find a common ground. A grandmother, mother and daughter. The end of my piece is an indication of a hopeful resolution after the grandmother passes away. Moments after the mother and daughter realize their beloved matriarch is gone their sobs are drowned out by the sound of a telephone ringing. In my play the ringing ceased in order for a message left by the doctors office of the grandmother asking them to bring her in as soon as possible. This sound symbolizes a moment missed. A call made too late to serve as a reminder that time is of the essence.

Background noise

For my sound blog I decided to take a small clip of background noise at one of my favorite restaurants. Some people may think loud restaurants are annoying because it's hard to talk to others in such a loud place, but I find peace in being surrounded in noise. When you are in loud places you can loose yourself in thought easily, because the noise around you is coming from so many different places it all begins to overlap so you can't really make out what people are saying. Personally, I can't concentrate in silent or quiet places, I need the background noise. So being in a place like this is relaxing for me because I can relax and concentrate on my thoughts and just be to my self for a while.

Jazmin Figueroa | Sound Blog | Birds Chirping | TA 132 Winter

As I was walking home this past week, I recognized the sound of birds chirping.  Then I began to analyze my admiration for the sounds.

One of the reason why I treasure the sound of the birds is because I am a huge fan of the environment. Nature is something that I value to a great extent.  However, because I do not interact with it frequently, I begin to act as if it does not exist.  I think I am heavily conscious of the buildings surrounding me, that I disregard the access that I do have to the environment.  The sound of birds chirping was very intricate and the volume varied.  This was very soothing to my ears because the layered sound made the atmosphere sound fuller.  I then realized how relaxing and beneficial it was to be in tune with the earth.  After all, humans are not the only creatures standing on this planet and it feels great to truly recognize the beauty of the co-existence between humans and animals.

As I kept walking I heard the sound of a car driving by. I began to see the birds as a representation of hope and the car a representation of human interruption.  The sound of the car started low and then increased as the car drove closer.  This added dimension and when I replayed the recording I had a better visualization of the setting. At first I was upset that the car intervened my recording, but then I remembered; this is reality.

Humans do in fact influence the environment to a huge extent and although some animals can adapt our life style, other animals can’t.  These birds are living among us but can lose their habitat if we decide to destroy the trees.  Without animal life or nature there is less dimension.  This is why we should be more conscious of our actions.

The atmosphere outdoors is very complex and it is very unnatural to have a single sound playing.  There are many components that make up outside noise like: wind, tree leaves, birds, cars, people, etc. In addition, the volume variation creates a realistic effect by allowing us to feel as part of a bigger setting. With that being said, we are all part of a bigger spectrum of atmosphere and most of all, life.

Hawaii 2016

This is a video of the sound of the waves of the ocean on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii. This is by far my favorite place I've ever been. The first time I ever came here was when I was sixteen and it's the most relaxing place I've ever been. It's so hard to believe that this is in the United States where the hustle and bustle and the sounds of road rage and traffic rules. I really needed this getaway even if it is a school trip. I've been so overwhelmed and stressed out lately but just being on the beach and in the ocean and listening to the rushing waves makes everything seem much more trivial and like everything will be okay. It's so calming. I've feel so Zen and peaceful. I can't remember the last time I felt this way. I could definitely get use to this.

P.S. I forgot about the 2 hours time difference. Sorry Karyn.

My Friday Morning Sound Blog

This video was taken this morning at Denny's. I decided to record this because once I finished eating I began to notice all the noise around me. I could slightly hear people talking, eating, and specifically a clicking sound made by a variety of dishes. This was significant to me because it was a Friday spent with my sister, and any time spent with my family is precious.

Behind the curtain

I chose to record what happens in the TA building. I've been going through these halls pretty much all four years I've gone here, and you always hear a lot going on. It wasn't too crazy this day since not many people were on campus at the time , but you can still hear a rehearsal going on in the state play house , sounds from the scenic shops, etc. I've been around stages as long as I can remember and walking through rehearsals , techs , of anything whether it's theater, dance, or a musical was always interesting to me. I've always loved the stage vibes even when there's a lot of tension during stage, which is why I decided to record what I hear going through the theatre arts hall.

Sound blog - Edward R.

I remember not wanting to go through the trouble of drivers ed. when I was younger. It seemed like a hassle so I would just drive around without a license or permit until I turned 18 and got my license. For some reason, I love being able to drive around. Especially at night with no set destination or time constraints. I love the sound of the engine running. The sound of me and my car on an empty road is one place I can find solace in. It is this sound that calms me and sets a certain ambiance.

Beach Vibes

The sound of the ocean has always soothed me. The sound stands out to me because the sound of water crashing down on the sand is just so unique. Usually there is a lot more sounds at the beach such kids playing or families playing music but the beach was very calm that day. I think that the sound is unique because it is loud and has a similar sound to radio static.  My favorite thing as a little girl was to take a sea shell from the beach and put it to my ear to hear the sound of the waves again. I also think the sounds intrigues me so much because the ocean is such a mysterious place that we still do not know about. The crashing waves reminds me that there are so many hidden secrets out there.

The Beginning of My Mornings

Every morning when I wake up, I start the coffee maker and make some tea. I then hear airplanes and see them as I walk outside. The beginning of my mornings are always the same; It's routine. And I wouldn't know I was home if it weren't for the sound of airplanes. And as the coffee maker starts running, I feel the morning and the beginning of a new day. The loud noises of the airplanes just remind me I live close to the airport and it makes me think of how much goes on throughout a day. People having breakfast, people traveling, people rushing to work, and people stuck in traffic. There's so much that goes on in our everyday lives and it all has sounds to let us know what it is that's going on. I hear the coffee maker and airplane sounds every day, but my day always begins with some tea and it wouldn't be a good day without tea.

Sound Blog x Jasmine Morada

I recorded this sound when I was walking to class one day. Usually I would feel rushed since I have to go to King Hall from Salazar Hall, but this time I wasn't. The day was nice, sunny, and windy and I just felt really relaxed. The person ahead of me was wearing heels, thus you could hear the distinct clatter of her heels hitting the pavement. Like the soft sounds of my own footsteps, the clatter was steady and even- not rushed. What I like most about this sound clip is the contrast of the steady footfalls to the sound of the skateboard that whizzed by. This becomes an example of how differently people go about their day; different ways they reach their destination.

Melanie Itokazu

For my sound blog I chose a sound I hear everyday. My roommate snoring! She snores so loud every night. At first I would wake up every 20 minutes because it was so loud. I have somewhat gotten used to it, but I still have to physically wake her up sometimes so she will stop for at least 10 minutes. It really sucks having a roommate that snores I get absolutely no sleep! The funny thing is I have a morning class, so ill be getting ready and she will wake up and tell me to be quite. It honestly blows my mind because I'm never loud but she snores all night and its ok. I really don't know how she doesn't wake her self up. I know she can't help it but its still really annoying. I tried wearing headphones which worked but they fell out during the night and in the morning my alarm went off but I couldn't hear it because my headphones were still plugged in. So the risk of missing class every other day wasn't worth it. So it looks like I'm stuck with no sleep! She was actually in shock when I showed her the sound clip, like she thought I was exaggerating about how loud she is. SNORING SUCKS!

The Sounds of My Everyday Life

For my video I decided to record the sounds that come from the outside of my home. The place I live in is always quite noisy. Especially since my building is near the intersection. As you can hear the cars passing by accompanied by the sound of an airplane. Also, during a sunny day that's when I will hear birds chirping outside which you might have heard in the background. I took a video of this because this what I always during the day even if I'm shut inside of my home.
This sound brings joy to my ears. This is my dog Brownie crying when anyone gets home. He cries this way every time some gets home because he gets excited. He is a multipoo, white and light brown hair. We had him for 5 years already. He is my baby. When I am away from home all day I miss him. I never thought I'd become so attached to a dog. We are not animal people but somehow we convinced my parents to let us have a dog. The sound is on drop box. My dog means the world to me. Coming home to a dog that is happy to see all the time is just an heart warming feeling.

Serenity

Almost every day I go to the library to escape the harsh realities of the awful world. when I come here I study and engulf myself in the required readings for class. I sit in piece. In silence. I love this feeling. it is like no other. What do I hear? all I hear is the small chatter from some of the other students. I hear footsteps approach and doors open and shut. this sound is almost relaxing and comforting as I know that we are all here to do the same thing, and that is work. We want to silently work and the sound of silence is what makes me most comfortable. The library is the place to be to hear quiet, tranquil peace.

I decided to record this sound because it is something I listen to every Friday, Saturday and Sundays when I am at work. Yup, you guessed it I work at the happiest place on earth. I was able to get a clean recording because being a security guard at Disneyland I have to be there at 5 a.m. and since there are no guest at that time I decided to record it. I would of liked to record when guests are in the park because from the main entrance you can hear guests screaming from the tower of terror, children's laughter, and children running. From all the tracks they play, this is the sound track that I love to hear the most when I am at work.

Knockin' the Train (Sound Blog- Stephanie Gutierrez)

I've taken the train for a little over a year now and I was kind of nervous at first because I didn't know what kind of people were going to be there or where to sit or where to get off the train or know what stop you're at, etc. Normal things I think people would be nervous about when boarding a train for the first time, alone and my first day of college and first day of taking the train happened on the same day so I was just over flooded with nerves. But now that I am in the middle of my second year of college, everything is more routine than nerves.
I recorded this clip while on the train because it gives off the sound of the train horn, the feel or atmosphere inside a cart, and how noisy it is because of all the different knocks and jumps going on. I never really noticed until a few days ago that taking the train is kind of like life. Going into something new, you're nervous because you don't know what to expect because you've never done it before. You're nervous about the people or the atmosphere or whether you're going to make a mistake, it all applies to life. While sitting in my seat, I am cold and tired and I do not want to go to school. But as i'm sitting in the silence, I take notice of all of the sounds that I hear everyday while taking the train and realize that we all, in a way, hear these sounds too. The train moving is us walking through, the horn is us communicating with others, we are suppose to keep on the tracks and stay there, just like us we have plans and different places that we need to go but we need to, in a way, stay on track. The noises you mostly hear in this clip are from the knocks and bumps the train makes hitting the tracks at certain points or edges and sometimes cause us passengers to jump a little. But as you may notice, yeah we hit a lot of bumps and things get a little crazy for a second, but then everything is fine afterwards. We don't explode, the whole world doesn't come crashing down, we are all fine after those crazy knocks and bump in our tracks. I just thought that that really applied to me in life, especially right now, and to all of us, I believe. Yeah I take the train everyday and it gets me from point A to point B but the road to my destination always gets just a little crazy but enough to make me realize that everything is fine afterwards and I continue on with my life and get off at my stop. This theory really hit me (like a train) one day and it just really shocked me how I can relate my life to taking the train, even though it sounds a little odd.

I promise to treat you as good as my Harley

I hear this every night around 11 o'clock. It's a magnificent American machine that is passionate, loyal, resourceful, dynamic and unique like it's rider. Every night that I see him ride away, I stare at his back, attentive of his surroundings. He disappears into the night. As if everything he passes becomes paper figurines (useless past). I don't mind watching his back. I can either be on his side, be by his side or be in his way. Anything that comes behind him, I encounter first. I can watch his right and left. I can also see what approaches ahead. As the engine slowly echoes away, I can see how he becomes one with his motorcycle. He quickly moves and leaves the bad behind. I can only wonder when will I hear his engine again. When will I be able to feel safe again. Finding things that make you happy shouldn't be so hard.

Backyard Sounds

The sound I recorded is the sounds that come from my backyard. The running water is coming from the pond. Like in my other blog post, I wrote that sometimes I like sitting in my backyard to sit in the sun. I also like listening to the water running and the wild birds. Also, though they're not singing in this audio sometimes my birds like to sing as well. My dogs also like to bark, but in this audio it's dogs from another house. I find this all very calming especially on a nice day like today.

Wenjia Zhang / Sound Blog / TAD 132-01

I always hear these kind of sounds when I go to a library in Cal State LA. Considering that I have taken lots of classes this winter quarter, I almost come to the college’s library every day. I really love staying in the library so that I can do my homework. To tell the truth, I am a lazy person. When I am at home, I don’t want to finish my homework and I just want to relax myself all the time. But when I am in the library, I get a lot of energy to do my assignment. I don’t know why until I recorded a sound of the library unintentionally yesterday. I find out my energy is totally from these kind of sounds.

It is very normal to hear the typing sound in the college library and I like it so much. I can hear plenty of people are typing their essays and the sound of typing the keyboard really pushes me to do my homework. I can even feel there is a rhythm while people are typing their essays. When we type a sentence, we must use a “space” between two words. I think that rhythm is from the “space”.  Some people don’t like the sound of chatting especially in the library, however, I like the chatting sound. I like they are chatting in low voices because I feel that they are discussing their topics. Also, I can hear the printer is printing and there is a sound of page turning as well. These sounds can help me put my concentration on my own assignment. That’s the reason I like finishing my homework in the library.

My Morning's

I choose the sound of the birds in the morning. Every Morning that I wake up I heard them and it makes me feel happy and active to start a new day. The mornings feel better when I heard them because they are little animals that wake up so early to find food, to protect themselves and they even have to take care of their little baby birds. Their singing sounds like if they are happy to see the sunlight and in the afternoons before it gets dark they go back to tree that is outside my house. For me is like the lesson learned in class about leveling because I am used to heard them and I would feel weird the morning that I don't hear them.

Sleeping not snoring.

I wasn't quite sure what I was going to get when I did this. After running around all day, my daily sounds are typically music and people talking loudly in my ear. So for this project, I choice to record me taking a short nap. I like that it was mostly silence and all you can hear is a few breaths. It calmed me to know that I'm getting recharged by sleeping so soundlessly. I could see this being used in a play to show someone sleeping like a baby where the baby is being played by a doll or something. However, an actor themselves would just make the noise themselves.

David Gomez (the power is between your legs)

Literally the power is between your legs. I love the sound of this motorcycle. The sound just makes me feel like going as fast as possible. And when I rev it I feel like its telling me 'is that all you got.' When I hear the sound of this sport bike it takes me to a paradise of feeling not human as if me and the machine are a single being. Just listening to the bike brings a scent of burned oil and gas, a smell of burned rubber a memory of triumph and black pavement wanting to be conquered. This sound is music to my ears it makes me want more I want to feel the bike under me all the vibrations and sounds of breaking through air as I look down at the speedometer that is way past 180mph; this is what it really feels like to fly.

Sound Blog: Background Noise

This is honestly a very interesting background sound to me. I come to this everytime I get home along with my sister and dog being very noisy and happy. I find this sound to be extremely relaxing, mostly because I have done the whole selective hearing we talked about in class. The laughs that are part of the background noise are permanent at my house. This simple background noise has become something I grew accustomed to and, as disrupting as it is, it helps me focus on the things I need to do. There's a certain comforting feel to the sound which, in turn, lifts up my mood even when I'm feeling moody. Apart from that, I think this noise is something everyone listens often but doesn't think much about it.
