Perspective

Perspective.

If I were to have moved a little more to one side I would have completely blocked the main source of light. If I were to have moved a little more to the other, I would have too much light. The image I envisioned before I took this picture was much like how it fortunately turned out, despite being blinded in the process from having a direct hit of sunlight. To passersby it probably seemed odd to them that a person would randomly take a picture of the campus' Confucius statue, not knowing that it was the sun and its' gleaming rays that actually made the image worth capturing.

I wasn't entirely sure what could have been said about this piece before I actually took it, but I do know what I felt once I saw it. I felt uplifted. The image itself is visually pleasing, and there's a lot that can be said about this image even just from the part light plays in it. In different angles of this particular piece, each image would have looked differently. That is the beauty of perception. If I were to have taken this picture from the other side facing away from the sun, I'm sure it wouldn't acquire the same desired effect. In short, a simple image can become more with just the right lighting.

  1. Lighting can make or break you! :) This image is great! Love the backlighting that's haloing the statue at just the right angle...love the ivory clouds reflecting the light, and the hidden texture of light through the trees near the bottom of this photo...great job!
